Living in 1066 country, an area steeped in history and with many local links to the Battle of Hastings and Norman conquest, finding somewhere to visit was not going to be too difficult!
My first visit was to the beautiful moated Bodiam Castle, dating back to 1385. It was built by Sir Edward Dalyngrigge, who was a former knight of Edward III. I gather that it was built to protect the area from French invasion during the Hundred Years' War. The castle was given to the National Trust in 1925.
