Trees? Some of us are lucky to be surrounded by them on a daily basis. For others in urban settings their presence may be more sporadic and structured. Whichever of these statements apply, you cannot fail to be amazed by the variety of trees that we see around us - size, colour, seasonal changes, leaf shape, species, native, and non native.
Spurred on by the micro adventure theme for July, 'time among tree' I decided to explore tree related places in the local area.
I made a tree inspired visit to Bedgebury Pinetum on a warm sunny day in early July. The pinetum is managed by the Forestry Commission, stretches over 350 acres and includes a wide range of broadleaf and conifer specimens. I was amazed at the range of conifers, their size and colour.
I particularly liked the huge Coast redwoods - sequoia sempervirens.

The coast redwoods at Bedgebury are about 80 years old and are already giants! The tallest tree on Earth is a coast redwood in America that is bigger than the Statue of Liberty.
In October 1987 a terrible storm hit a large part of England. As a result of gale force winds Bedgebury lost a third of its trees. The only positive was that it provided an opportunity for new collections to be introduced and the landscape redesigned.
I am by no means an expert on tree species so I will let the images do the talking! I did enjoy a bit of tree hugging though!
Closer to home I took a few photos of the trees within a few hundred metres of where I live. I am blessed with a spectacular view from my office window and it is wonderful to watch it change through the seasons or even from day to day with changes in weather.
So take a little time to appreciate the diversity around you and be amazed!
