On the last day of January, with a friend visiting from London, but born in Mumbai, it seemed appropriate for us to visit Batemans , the home of Rudyard Kipling from 1902-36.
Not discouraged by the cold and wet weather we made the short journey through Burwash to the property now owned by the National Trust. The house was built in 1634. The rooms are as they were when the house was inhabited by the Kipling family and contains many of Rudyard Kipling's items collected during his travels. Links to India are a regular theme.
Following a walk around the house, grounds, including the mill, the afternoon was topped off with a well deserved cream tea, Earl Grey and scrumptious cake!
